Equitable estoppel may prevent an employer from contending that a claim was not filed in time. 2. Workmens Compensation ? Purpose of Workmens Compensation Act. Workmens Compensation Act is for benefit and protection of injured workman and his beneficiaries, and should not be defeated by narrow and technical construction. 3. Workmens Compensation ? Doctrine of Equitable Estoppel applied. Where employee was informed by employers personnel manager and by attorney for employer that employees injuries were not compensable and there was no need for filing a claim and employee relied upon such information, doctrine of equitable estoppel was applicable and fact that employee did not file claim for compensation within statutory time would not defeat his right to compensation. 4. Estoppel ? Equitable Estoppel flexible rule. Doctrine of equitable estoppel is a flexible one, founded in equity and good conscience, with object of preventing a party from taking an unconscionable advantage of his own wrong while asserting his strict legal right.
